Welcome to Ellen’s Organic Gardening Tips.
Our goal is to provide you with the information you need to learn the tips and techniques of Organic Gardening.

Organic gardening is a system that lets you grow plants in a way that is compatible with nature and free of chemical use.  For many people it is a philosophical practice, an effort to be more in tune with nature.   And it makes good business sense. Vegetables, flowers, fruit and herbs grown in a healthy environment are full of vitamins and minerals, take less water and you don’t have to buy all those chemicals.

The basis of organic gardening is soil fertility.  If you suspect your soil “needs a little help”, this can be achieved by adding compost, planting green manure crops and mulching.  Healthy soil will provide nutrition for healthy plants.

Beneficial insects, companion planting, organic fertilizer, and plant requirements are all part of the basics of organic gardening.  Once you start to implement the use of these into your gardening practices, you will find the natural interconnections of all these methods.

Whether you have a windowsill garden, pots on a patio, or a large space outside, you can enjoy organic gardening as a rewarding, healthy life style.  You will want to start with a plan that will meet your needs.  Get to know what will grow in your area in each season.  A good way to remember what works in your garden is to keep notes in a journal.  You can keep track of your observations and this will help to compare what works and what doesn’t.

Organic Gardening is an enjoyable hobby for the whole family.  Gardening with kids provides them with wonderful learning experiences.  It is a great stimulus for their imagination and an outlet for their energy.  For adults, gardening can be a great way to get outside in the fresh air, and get some exercise.  It’s also a great stress reliever.

Organic Gardening is all about a healthy, pleasurable lifestyle.  We invite you to check the articles on this website for more information.
